Tree guys, one mission. To play poker

Three guys from the UK travel to Vegas for a week of Poker.
The general idea was to play at least one tourney a day then hit the cash tables later, but that idea went by the wayside on day one of the trip.
Arrived on a direct flight from the UK at 2.00pm and checked into Harrah's, our base for the week.
75/100 hours of play over the week and it all came down to 6 big hands
Hand 1 (Day1)
Aria $1/3
Bought in for $300 Seat 9
First hand of a new table I’m in BB with A9c. Raise to $10 from seat 5 with two callers, SB calls as do I. Flop AsAh9h (oh happy days) SB checks I lead out for $50 only for seat five to go all in, everyone folds to me and I think about it for 1 nano-second only to see him flip A3d. Nice pot of $430.
Hand 2 (Same table)
QcQs UTG and raise to $10, call from seat 2 and BB. Flop Qh6h4h. Like the set but not the flush draw. I lead out for $50, both call. Turn is 4c. BB goes all in for his last $60, I raise to $120 and other guy calls BB has 8h2h, 2 seat AhKh. Scoop $480.
Hand 3 (Day3)
Venetian $1/2
Early raise to $7 5 callers to my BB, look down at 7c7s. I call and we see a flop of 7h10s10d. I check and it’s checked round to the button who shoves for $220 so I shap call and he turns over 10c9c. Turn is 9x, river a brick, nice loss of $220 (not).
Hand 4 (Same table)
Pick up AQd on the button and raise to $10, BB re-raises to $40 and I put him on a squeeze so I flat it and see a flop of Qc4c10h. I lead out for $80 and he re-raises all in for about $250. I don’t think about it enough and call to see QQ (I’m dead) no runner runner to help so down $300 (great)
Hand 5 (Day 4)
Harrah’s $1/2
But in for $300 and first hand pick up AKo, no idea of the rest of the table so I open for $7 only to get one call and an all in for $45. I call the $45 and the other guy shoves for $95. I decide to call and the board runs out AK296. I show top two and they both thrown their hands in.
Hand 6 (Day 5)
Venetian $1/2
A couple of limpers to my SB and I have Kskc, raise to $10 and BB re-raises to $45. It’s the guys first hand after joining the table so I decide to put him to the test and raise to $165. He goes all in for the rest of his $300 buy in, at which point my brain is screaming AA, FOLD. Guess what? Yes I call and sure enough he has AA (Goodbye $300)
I must have seen over 2000 hands during the week and I had three good days and three bad.
My total for the week was an overall win of ………………………………..wait for it…………………………… $35 WOW what a return?
I only played in three tournaments all week
Harrah’s 10.00am $60
Only 27 players and when we got down to the last five, I suggested that we chop it for $200 each.
Venetian 19.00pm $120
40 players, most of which were intent on trying to double up early. I saw the worst call to an all in, pre flop, from J9o against KK only for the flop to go 10 8 7 (great play) there must have been 16k in the pot. I went out in 15th after calling an all in with QQ v 88 only for an 8 to come on the turn.
Harrah’s 01.00am $60
Only 13 players, but a nice relaxed table with plenty of light hearted conversation. I was here that I saw the worst of human nature.
Now as I said it was not a serious game, or so I thought, and a young Canadian (YCG) girl who was at the table with her fiancée was the very short stack and she announced that she was going all in blind. Three of us had folded pre-raise and the dealer scooped up our cards and also the cards of the all in. before anyone else could act, she said “Where are my cards” I stood up and said to the last two to act “Come on, both fold so she can take down the blinds and antes” a young lady at the end of the table folded but the guy in 1 seat says “Call” (what a twat). Anyway the floor was called over and YCG and fiancée argue about it with the manager, dealer and anyone else who will listen. The manager awards the pot to Villain who is now the target of all at the table, YCG bursts into tears and storms out for a smoke while the Manager calls a break just to calm things down. I went out to talk to her, told her to calm down and even gave her the $60 buy in back out of my own pocket.
Latter on, the Manager had reviewed the CCTV, seen the dealers mistake, and gave her the buy in back as a gesture of good will. Well done Harrah’s it’s things like this that people remember.
Memo to self. If you think you’re up against AA while holding KK and your think you’re behind, for God’s sake FOLD

  1. John,

a nice report, which I enjoyed reading and you telling last night at the table, well played and 70 -100 hours of Poker ? Wow - I couldn't be more envious...

    Dunc

  2. kudos to you on giving YCG her buy back. cheers and GL at the tables.

    thx for sharing.

  3. Concise and entertaining report = a classy report by a classy guy.

I wouldn't fret much about the AA vs. KK; or at least that someone else (me) would do the same if only because this past summer in a two day's span I had my A.I. pocket aces vs. pocket kings cracked by three kings ~ so I am due to catch up as the cards much surely have a memory, right? lol

  4. Great read....thanks for posting!

  5. If you gave her the buy-in back and the house gave her the buy-in back she did pretty well i'd say,I'm not much of a crier but, i'll have to remember that one

  6. I got the 60 bucks back from her
