ON A RECENT TRIP TO CHEROKEE I WANTED TO POINT OUT SEVERAL THINGS. THE NEW POKER ROOM IS VERY NICE AND LOCATED RIGHT NEXT TO THE SPORTS BOOK. UNFORTUNATELY THEY FELL SHORT IN SOME KEY AREAS. THE CHAIRS ARE CHEAP AND NOT THAT COMFORTABLE. THE TABLES DON'T HAVE CUTOUTS FOR THE DEALERS AND THIS MAKES IT VERY HARD FOR MOST OF THEM TO REACH CHIPS WHICH SLOWS THE GAME DOWN. THEY ALSO HAVE A RUNWAY WHICH IS NOT NEEDED, AND SOMETIMES CAUSES CARDS TO FLIP. THE NEW POKER TABLES DO NOT HAVE A BETTING LINE WHICH WOULD MAKE IT A LOT CLEARER ON PEOPLES ACTIONS, AND AVOID SOME OF THE ANGLE SHOTS I SAW THERE. THEY ARE VERY SHORT ON DEALERS AND WITH THE PROMOS THEY RUN CANT EVEN STAFF THE TABLES THEY HAVE WHICH LEADS TO AN IMMEDIATE WAITING LIST. THE RAKE IS VERY HIGH 7 PLUS 1 FOR THE PROMO. YOU WOULD THINK THAT WHILE PUTTING THE MONEY INTO A NEW POKER ROOM THEY WOULD HAVE MADE THESE SIMPLE CHANGES THAT WOULD BRING THEM UP TO TODAY'S STANDARD. NO FOOD ALLOWED, WHICH IS PROBABLY A GOOD THING, AND THE DRINKS ARE EXPENSIVE AND THE SERVICE LACKING. THEY FEEL THAT SINCE THEY HAVE NO COMPETITION THEY CAN JUST RUN A MARGINAL ROOM. MOST OF THE DEALERS AND STAFF ARE GREAT BUT FIXING A LOT OF THE OTHER ISSUES WOULD MAKE THE EXPERIENCE A LOT BETTER. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE TWO KINGS CASINO OPENING UP NEXT YEAR, HOPEFULLY THEIR POKER ROOM WILL PROVIDE A BETTER OPTION.
