In less than two weeks of new ownership and name change, they managed to destroy the card room. Players can live with minor changes from different card rooms or management, but they will go where the action is. Rounders only had one major competitor and it was SA Card House. Players went to one or the other because of location or comfort zone with the players they hang out with. Rounders normally had more tables running than SA Card House on most times and days.
When Rounders changed to The Lodge, there were a few changes. The major change that lost so many players was the fact that they capped the 1/2 game to $300. That change alone drove all the action to SA Card House. It is like Zombie Land at The Lodge now! They can barely get one game started during the day. It makes me sad because I was a big fan of the club and the employees are great. The action blew out of towners away. They couldn't believe what they were seeing. It was the liveliest and deepest 1/2 game on the planet! It was a great atmosphere, but players will go where there is action - it is no longer at the Lodge. San Antonio is used to playing uncapped games because a guy with $100 can run his stack up to $2700! A player can sit down on a deep stack table and can buy in for close to the amount of the deep stack and have a chance to win some money. With a $300 max buy in, there is a lot of hit and run. If you lose more than two buy-ins, it will be very difficult for you to win your money back. Management justifies having $300 max because they think players with deeper stacks will player 1/3. The problem is they don't start 1/3 very often at The Lodge now because all of the players are going to SA Card House!
In less than two weeks, this card room managed to lose more than 50% of their business and more than double SA Card House's business!
New management says they listen, but they obviously don't. Everyone has told them the capped $300 buy in doesn't work in San Antonio.

Hi sanantonetx, we hear your feedback about the cash games loud and clear. We agree that if $1/$3 is not regularly running and $1/$2 is capped at $300, that is a big problem because members who like deep stacked play don't have an option.
This was not our intention. We wanted to provide a place where players who like capped games can play capped ($1/$2) and players who like deep stacked games can play deep stacked ($1/$3).
We're going to experiment with promotions to get the $1/$3 game running regularly. We'll see how that goes and reevaluate our cash game offerings if necessary.
We are committed to the long run here and understand that SA players need to have a deep stacked game to play. Ideally we can find a way to provide that option while also serving our members who prefer capped games.
