Recently played in a $40,000 guarantee tourney and had a bad experience with a decision made by the floor supervisor late in the tournament.
Player in small blind of $1,500 faced with a raise to $16,000 announced by the dealer, threw in a $5,000 chip. When dealer requested small blind increase chips bet to $16,000, player attempted to take back $5,000 chip. Floor was called with no dispute over events. Floor allowed player to take back $5,000 chip and fold. Rationale was player was old (maybe 65) and made a mistake. Floor told me dEcision would have been different with a younger player. In 30 years playing, never saw situation where player threw out overchip and not a call.
According to floor when questioned week later, all floor supervisors agreed with the decision. Need to be prepared that the playing field may not be level.
