Room here is pretty nice, but not fantastic. If you're familar with Sunset Station, it's very much in line with the rest of the casinos. Clean and comfortable, but not particularly fancy or anything. Room is nicely sized, and it's not too hard to get around. Vibe is ptetty good, not stuffy or pretentious, but you can tell people are here to gamble, not impress anyone.
Competition here is a totally mixed bag. First off, it's all locals. And to top it off, it's all regulars. It really changes a lot as the day goes on. Morning/Early afternoon is mostly older folk and retirees, and players from the tournament. Get on a cash table as the tournament starts and wait for the drop-outs to fill it the table and your rack. As the afternoon wears on though, the younger and looser crowd starts filling the place, and it does get a bit rougher. It's still not Bellagio hard, but you gotta be on your toes. The regulars here probably aren't much different from regulars elsewhere, but there tourists to mix it up are far and few between. Don't come here counting on getting a drunk fish to play with, for better or worse. Late nights is when this room really starts to get scary. Since there are no tourists, if there's anyone there to play with, it's gonna be a local, and not a passive-tight old man, either. Clearly we're not talking Johnny Chan here, as it's usually only 4/8 or 3/6/9 at the late hours, but it gets as rough as those games can get.
Despite all this, I gotta say, I enjoy playing with the people here. I definitely don't always win, but it can be nice playing with the same guys every week. Most of them are pretty friendly when you start chatting, and it makes it quite comfortable, even if you're losing.
Dealers definitely know what they're doing, but most of them aren't really superstars or anything. No issues with misdeals or misread hands, and they're very friendly. It's also nice playing with the same dealers every week.
Cocktail waitresses are generally good lookin', but not all of them are smokin. Regardless, theres enough to get distracted if you want to, and the cocktail service is fairly quick and regular. They serve Redbull, which is nice, but the drinks come in smaller glasses now generally, which puts them in line with other places. The tables have drink holders, but there are also little drink carts you can pull up next to your chair to put your stuff on.
My favorite way to describe the management here is "old school." List is pen and paper, and usually run by the kind of guy you would imagine running a poker room 20 years ago. Not mean or anything, but means business and not necessarily personable. Still, they take care of problems well and are pretty efficient.
I like the comps here. I think they pay about $1.50 an hour, but whatever it is, it's always enough to get a meal after a decent session. Not the biggest comp system in the book, but I'd rather have half the money to eat at Sunset Station than 2x as much at the Imperial Palace. They have a badbeat jackpot system, and I've heard of it paying off, but I don't see it.
