Blinded by short term greed, ownership is truly whiffing out on a massive opportunity to turn this poker room and their resort into something bigger.
$20 rake at a 1/3 game is truly unheard of and I can’t wait for more of the community to voice their concerns on why this doesn’t work long term for anyone. It’s not winnable for players and hurts GCE’s reputation.
Imagine charging $10-15 rake (still higher than average), and focusing on making poker a long term priority. Toronto is Canada's BIGGEST city and the potential is massive. Company’s like Pokerstars, Partypoker, 888, etc. can now legally operate in Ontario. Imagine them endorsing this room, hosting events and more. Stuff like this attracts THOUSANDS of people. It equates to more revenue for people staying in hotels, dinning, and playing table games.
Instead, Great Canadian Casino Poker will be a laughing stock in the poker community and no one will want to play here. It’ll also put a sour taste in people’s mouthes and deter them from even visiting the establishment as a whole. Money lost everywhere, not just at the poker room.
I cannot wait for some big poker names to mention this as it’ll be an embarrassment for the casino.
Hoping they come to their senses during this “soft launch” and aren’t as greedy with their adjusted rake.
I will not be playing here until then, and will encourage everyone I know why they shouldn’t either.
