Silks poker room is just an hour from my home and I've put in about 20 hours of play here over the past two months. Overall, the poker room is acceptable, but definitely NOT a cut above. I found the dealers pleasant and competent. I'd rate them a solid 4 out of 5 as far as dealing and keeping the game flowing. The high hand jackpot is okay, nothing spectacular. What is shocking? How about a drop with no flop!
The action in the room can be hit or miss, but the 1-3 NLH game tends be good, but be careful. What I mean by this is that there's supposed to be a list players go through to get into the tables. Yes, you're going to have to put your name in and I've had to wait up to 45 minutes to be called.
This leads to the main issue I have with Silks, the management of the room. There are a lot of regular players here that all seem to know each other. Nothing wrong with that, but when players are allowed to skip being seated through the list and buddies arrange to get buddies at the table, well, why are we even bothering with the list in the first place? Why are we paying the price for management?
I'd say that you need to be mindful of what's going on and if you're a player that's capable of shifting gears in your game, there can be some good action here. If you're new to playing live poker, you need to be careful.
Another annoying thing is that the tables often go very short handed and the game stays fully raked? I found many players will drag a decent pot or two then wander off. Silks offers rated play and it's funny how many players seem to take multiple extended breaks. Things like these are a reflection of the room's management.
All in all, your experience may vary from visit to visit. Lots of room regulars that can make for some decent action, but you're going to have to remain mindful of what's going on since the room management is lacking which could make for an unfortunate overall experience.
