The venetian poker room is all that is explained on the marketing materials. It truly is world class and has the best amenities on the strip. Yet, it still a very approachable place to play. Never felt intimidated and always felt welcome at every level. The room was clean, roomy, and classy.
While I am no pro player and play in weekend games at home and venture into casinos only a couple times a year, I found the competition mixed. There are some hot shots which you have to duck, some dead money, but mostly people like you and me there, having fun, playing poker, and going to the felt. I played 1/2, 2/5, and 5/10. There was a mix at every level.
Some tables are tighter than others, and it all depends on the people who you are sitting around. I had one table one night that would fold to any bet. It was insane. I strated straddling and pushing to try to loosen things up. It worked.
Dealers are good here. For the most part they keep the game going and are friendly and knowledgable. Most of them are players themselves and you can find them at the tables with you when they are not working. Most of the are solid players. I only had two bad dealers in the 5 days I stayed at the Venetian for New Years. One was so old he just couldnt keep up and another was a lady who just couldnt keep control over a particularly rambunctious table. When the dealers switched the table was reclaimed by the more competent dealer and things went back to normal.
I had an excellent experience with the servers. Half of them are HOT and half of them are just ok. All of them are good on serving times, but on new years there was a lack of servers and time slowed. This is probbaly an isolated incident but over all am quite happy. Im not a big drinker but usually have an IV of diet coke at my disposal.
I had a good exeperience with the room management. I read of some problems that people had but I think that the situations and times may have caused the problems. I guess it can also be about how you treat people can reflect how others treat you.
My only compaints which are repeated from other reviews which is
1) No easy way to switch tables.
2) They do seem to move on to the next name if you miss your name once. So, gotta stay alert.
Wait time was never more than 10 minutes over a New Years weekend.
Comp rates were ok. They used to be better, highest of the strip but they have slid to the same as other places. The room rate comps are excellent however. You can get a $379 room for $169. Not bad!
