Great Old School Poker

Overall, not too bad. It seemed a little cramped when all the tables were running. Tables were in decent shape. Chairs needed to be a kittle more comfortable, but by far not the worst I've been in. Not having auto shufflers on all of the tables slowed some games down. I liked having a snack bar so close to the room, but every so often a strong smell of burnt cheese would waft through the room, and that is not pleasant.

Early in the morning (2-6 AM), there was a decent mixture of local nits and drunk tourists. After that, it was all tourists. One or two decent players, but mostly the young aggressives who wanted to play at Binion's just to say they did. Overall, very beatable, as even the local nits were not too tough to play against.

Mostly older, very experienced dealers. Some you could tell had been there since Binion's "heyday". Very few mistakes made. I think I saw 2 or 3 flipped dealt cards in 14 hours, and only one premature burn and turn. Dealers were very personable, kept the game moving, and added just the right amount of commentary between hands to be amusing but not annoying. And I didn't see one who, after receiving a tip, didn't look the player in the eye and say "thank you sir/ ma'am", with at least half sincerity. It's sad that I should have to give them props for this as it should be standard. But in a lot of rooms, it is not.

The cocktail waitresses were all older, and you could tell 20 years ago they were attractive. Honestly, I don't care if you look like Dennis Rodman in his wedding gown, as long as the drinks keep coming. That being said, the service was terrible. Thet only had one waitress working the cash game room, and one working the tourney room. With only two or three tables going, she came by every 10 - 15 minutes. When all 14 tables were going, it was well over an hour between drinks. On a positive note, the drinks were always correct. But way too slow. They needed 3 waitresses in the cash room to keep up.

The night floor man was excellent! Twice our table got to 6 handed or less, and both times, without players asking, he cut the rake to $2 a hand! He was also very professional and fair. He made the same ruling against a drunk tourist and a local nit, an obvious friend of his, when both broke the same rule. The nit kept saying "but it's me, you know me." But he stood by the correct ruling.
The daytime management was very friendly, but extremely overwhelmed. A lack of a computer list kept them from getting a five. It was a little disorganized, and you could tell they were stressed out. Also, they need an actual chip runner who is not working the checkin stand. Several times a player got sat, gave them money, only to not have chips 3-4 hands later. One had to borrow chips from the dealer to play his hands, and one borrowed from another player to keep the action moving.

$2 an hour food comps, which is higher than most on the strip. A free t shirt for quads or better, which I prefer over a high hand jackpot as they did not rake the extra buck from each pot.
