Mirage is a classic. Nice decor, good times. From what I hear this is where the big games used to be played before Bellagio was around. These days the highest they seem to get going is 40/80. Of course most of us play 3/6 or 6/12 (including me), and they treat you like a higher limit player even in these games. The Mirage room has recently been trying some new things. They started a daily heads up tournament, which they play on the first ever 6- handed live poker tables. I frequent the Mirage, though, and have yet to see a 6 max game going. My only complaint, though minor, are the chairs. I can't believe I'm complaining about chairs, but, after playing at Wynn and Bellagio there's an obvious difference.
Mirage used to have some of the tougher games in the area, but they have softened up greatly at the 3/6 level. These games are extremely beatable for a solid player. Even if you're new to the game, if you play few enough hands you should do fine. Avoid early in the day (8 AM - NOON) as the game is mostly local tight rocks. The best thing is, if your table is too tight, simply ask the floor manager for a switch and your next table is bound to be good. There is almost always a good low limit game at the Mirage. 6/12, however, tends to be much much more difficult. Most could make more at 3/6 than 6/12 without putting up the extra money to play higher.
The dealers at Mirage are good, except for a few duds you may run into. Very few misdeals, but a couple dealers are a bit slow.
This is where the Mirage poker room could use some improvement. Not only are the waitresses at Mirage usually missing in action, but when they do come around, they tend to be snotty. The drinks take a while to get back, and there is no real Red Bull, rather some knock off. Unfortunately for the very few good cocktail waitresses, their effort is greatly overshadowed by the many bad ones.
The management at the Mirage is great. They always open a new table when it's needed and work the list well.
Stay till 5 AM (or thereabouts) for free food. Pastries, and finger sandwiches. They're straight from room service and taste great, well worth playing an hour or so extra if you're there at 4. Also, ask the floorman for a food voucher. The play requirement is supposed to be about 15 hours, but basically if you're playing a few hours they should give it to you. All you have to do is ask.
