The room is very impressive at first, but after playing for a few hours I became a bit disenchanted. Space was a bit tight, layout a little poor in my opinion. What's nice though is the proximity to the main entrance/main valet and the new Carnegie Deli. The vibe was fairly serious and professional when I arrived, but not really in a bad way. Almost makes you feel like you're a little kid sitting with the grown-ups when you play low limits, though.
Competition was pretty rough. The 3/6 game I played and the other people I could observe seemed to be frequent tourists, and often of Asian descent. Some locals mixed in, but they were the minority at my end of the room. A couple of non-serious players were around, but I think the atmosphere is a little intimidating to them, so many of the people either knew how to play or weren't conscerned with losing money. In any case, the room was surprisingly full for a late Sunday night.
Dealers were good. No real mistakes or issues, but no personalities either. Except of course for one old guy, who was like your stereotypical old man dealer. Cracked jokes, a bit of a smartass, made the game a lot more fun. Never dealt me a winning hand, but I felt like I should tip him anyway just for being so refreshing in the otherwise stale room.
Cocktail waitresses weren't unattractive, but nothing to drool over either. Service was OK I suppose, but the tables don't have built-in cupholders, which is annoying. Drinks weren't all that quick, but it could've been worse. Kind of expected better from the Mirage, but at 2am on a Sunday I guess I can't complain.
Didn't deal with the management too much, but i guess they were ok. I had to wait at the desk for about 10 minutes before the lady manager returned, and I felt a little dumb 'cause I wasn't even sure I was waiting at the right place. Chips are bought at a seperate cashier cage, and I believe I had to do it myself. Management seemed to take care of any issues that arose during the night, but I wasn't too impressed from my limited contact.
Allegedly they offer sandwiches at 3 or 4am, but I either wasn't there at the right time or they didn't do it that night. Saw no mention or offer of any other comp system.
