MGM Grand's room is hip and modern and fun, you can hear the music from Centrifuge and the room felt very energetic. Of course that aspect could be quite different on a Tuesday morning, but nice tables and good lighting all around. I'm fairly tall so could have used higher chairs or more legroom, I felt a little cramped after a few hours at a full table.
This is hard to categorize. On Friday night I played at a 2/4 table and most of the players were a group of middle-aged women getting drunk that had never played the game before, at first I figured it would be easy pickings, but my chip stack slowly bled away as they simply called every bet on every round, regardless of whether they had 2-7 off or pocket Aces. Loose players are one thing, but playing at a table where 7 people call to the river on every hand regardless of what they have makes the game almost impossible to play, much to the frustration of myself and a few other 'serious' players at the table. In addition to them, the table was also graced for a few hours by the presence of Elvis himself, or rather an impersonator in full get-up who played the part to the hilt to the delight of the women. Overall a very social, noisy and fun table to play at, but not as profitable as I had hoped. Lost my $100 buy-in after about 5 hours without ever being up more than a few dollars.
Saturday night 2/4 was more playable, with a few experienced players and a few WPT wannabes wearing sunglasses, staring each other down for a $2 call. Still, almost every hand called to the river for more than a few depressing suckouts. I was even after about 3 hours so started playing a little more agressively but got hammered over and over by bigger pairs or bigger kickers. Ended up on a very short stack so raised all-in with mediocre hands and won 2 in a row but busted out on the 3rd.
The dealers were pleasant and friendly, and shared a few chuckles of disbelief at some of the hands being played on Friday night. Some are more experienced and/or more social than others, so it's hit or miss but all seemed competent with no major errors.
Fairly steady on both nights, nothing to complain about, but nothing extraordinary.
The room runs very smoothly, many have mentioned the pagers and large screens which show the wait list. My only complaint would be that the staff seemed to forget that new players don't necessarily know which table is which in this large room with many games going on. When my name was called I was simply told - "You're at table 8." There has to be more than 20 tables at MGM, how am I supposed to know which one is table 8?
$1/hr which is standard for most rooms in town. Took advantage on Saturday and got some food at the snack bar adjacent to the room, however the food at the snack bar is very expensive so don't expect much for your comp dollars. No jackpots of any kind.
