After an amazing dinner at the Rio buffet, I took a look at Rio's poker room. Needless to say, I was not impressed and instead walked accross the street to the Palms. I was suprised that their poker room left so much to be desired as well. The room was fairly small, extremely smokey, and the table was not level and needed some repair. The room was definately lacking the same vibe that makes the rest of the casino so fun. I got into a 2/4 game waiting for 4/8 to open, but ended up leaving before my seat was open. If you are looking to smoke, the Palms could be your place, as it is one of the only rooms in the area where both smoking and players under 45 are allowed.
The competition was not good, and was not bad. Some of the players knew what they were doing, but it was generally tight passive and very unprofitable for a 2/4 game. Note that the competition was not good, but unprofitable.
The dealers at the Palms well outshined the rest of the room. Everyone that dealt for my table was friendly, fast, and accurate. In fact, i even noticed a couple of the better dealers on TV dealing Celebrity Poker Showdown (filmed at the Palms) after arriving home. No auto shufflers though.
Not only were the cocktail waitresses around literally every 10 minutes or so..but they were all extremely hot. Supermodel hot. Their outfits are extremely sexy, like nothing i've seen at a casino before. Also, table side dining is offered, as if that matters.
Management was alright, though the area to sign up and get chips was a bit cramped, again faulting of the small size of the room.
I think players club points are offered for playing. I wasn't there long enough to worry about it. There are jackpots for high hands, including all quads and straight flushes.
